I started by adding a little essential oil to a diffuser and sitting down on a pair of small cushions in my office. I adjusted my crossed legs a couple of times to find a comfortable spot. I’m beginning to move more towards a lotus position, but it may be some time before I reach it!

As I went through the preparation stages I noticed that my mind was wandering away a lot with thoughts. This morning I was quite patient with it and I bought it back each time it happened. Because of this starting and stopping, I did have to restart the steps a few times. After I had finished the notes I moved on to a very quick body scan. I had to restart this twice too, as my mind drifted.

I then made a firm resolve to focus, reminding myself of my intentions. As I reached the breaths, I started counting one to ten, before restarting. Today again I had a good focus. I didn’t lose the count for the whole period, which I guess would have been between 22-25 minutes.

I found that although I was enjoying the fact I was keeping the count well, even finding it easy, I did have a lot of wandering from the mind. This took the form of thoughts or sensations as an almost constant stream alongside the focus on the breath. This detracted from the enjoyment somewhat and caused a little frustration.

Overall I enjoyed this session as I managed to get focusing quite well. I’m left with some extra energy too which is nice.
