This morning I waited until 8am to start so the children had left for school. I’d awoke very tired by the children and the chance to start didn’t present itself until they left for school. It was a really nice day here, so I decided to sit on a tall chair at the table where it is brighter. I bought my essential oil diffuser through and set up with a little lavender and eucalyptus oil.

As I started I took around a minute to just be still and breathe listening to my surroundings. I found there was a little traffic noise, and some noise drifting from the building work over the road, but this didn’t bother me. I was resolved to try and make this morning a pleasant session. I started the preparation steps and found a little wandering, but it did not take more than two minutes to complete.

I then did a quick body scan from feet to head and took a few breaths. After counting to 10 on the breaths once, I settled on using just “in” and “out” internally to watch their passing. I also tried to focus on the sensations at the inside tip of my nose. Something I have noticed is that although I’ve been keeping track well, I am often letting the sensation awareness drift.

The next period was fairly enjoyable, I had a fair amount of mind wandering, but often too old memories or imagined situations. I was able to catch most of them without too much distraction creeping in.

At one point after around twenty minutes I was noticing a pleasant mild sensation of relaxation passing in my mind. I tried to follow this more closely, but it went away. I guess my desire to increase it had the opposite effect. I will try to be a more passive observer in the future. Easier said than done I expect!

Anyway, after I noticed these events I became a little impatient. I wanted to finish from that point. I resolved to focus again and after a couple of minutes I’d settled down a little and the gong rang.
