Review

As I started I noticed I was in a very similar situation to yesterday. I was able to follow the breath with a stable awareness in one ‘stream’. However, the other stream which I want to train to become ‘the watcher’ is very susceptible to thoughts and distractions. Much more so than when just watching the breath. I believe the book hints that this will happen.

I resolved today to just sit with this process. Many quick thoughts did come as expected. I found I was able to notice most of them quickly and without much change to the awareness of breath. I found the sitting to be relaxing and pleasant. The impatience I’d struggled with a lot over the past few weeks seems to have disappeared recently. In fact, when I notice dullness appearing I am actively trying to cultivate this energy a little to help increase the focus.

Today I was also fascinated to see if I could induce any ASMR while sitting. I found some very mild events, particularly on the in breath which suggested this might be able to be done. However, I can see that this might also become a big distraction. Something to watch out for in the next few sessions.

Anyway, after finishing I can reflect back on what felt like a pleasant, but very average session.
